Seville is located in the South of Spain. A provincial capital, seat of the government and parliament of the Comunidad Aut\u00f3noma de Andaluc\u00eda (Regional Government). It has more than 700,000 inhabitants, nearly half the population of the whole province. The city of Seville is located on the plain of the Guadalquivir River which crosses the city from North to South. The river can be navigated from Seville all the way to its outlet near Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda, on the Atlantic coast. In the past the port of Seville played an important role in commerce between Spain and the Americas and it remains today one of the most active river ports of the Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Situated on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a rich Moorish heritage, and used to be a prosperous port that carried out trade with the Americas. The old town of Sevilla, covering almost four square kilometers, is one of the three largest in Europe along with Venice and Genova. The most representative landmarks of Sevilla are the cathedral, one of the largest ones of Gothic times, with its famous bell-tower, La Giralda, reconstructed from the minaret of the original mosque, the Royal Alcazar, developed from a moorish palace which displays a beautiful mixture of Mudejar and Renaissance styles, and La Torre del Oro, a defensive barrier on the river to protect the river port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The streets and squares in the historic quarter of the capital of Andaluc\u00eda are lively and busy. They are home too many buildings that have the World Heritage designation, and many districts are full of traditional culture, like Triana and La Macarena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Seville is a prominent business and service centre in the south of Spain and has many hotels distributed all over the city which enable visitors to discover endless attractions. Museums and art centres, theme parks, cinemas, theatres and clubs are some of the many leisure options that a great city like Seville holds. Without forgetting, of course, the numerous terraces, inns and bars where visitors can practise one of the most deeply-rooted and tasty traditions in the city: \u201cGoing out for tapas\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
